The GS1 Company Prefix is the foundation of authentic barcodes
A GS1 Company Prefix is a unique identification number issued just to your company—it’s part of every barcode, U.P.C. and GTIN you create and identifies your company as the brand owner in the global supply chain.
To get a barcode, you need a GS1 Company Prefix
- You get a unique company identification number called a GS1 Company Prefix. It will identify your company to businesses all over the world
- Using that prefix, you add a number that specifically identifies your product. Combined with a check digit, this creates a GTIN® (Global Trade Item Number®) that identifies both your company and that product
- You take this GTIN and create a barcode from it that can be scanned (you can also use this GTIN for your online product listing)
How many barcodes do you need?
Did you know that you can’t use the same barcode for two different items? Variations from one product to another will require a separate GTIN/U.P.C. barcode. You’ll need to identify the number of barcodes you need in order to get a GS1 Company Prefix, but we can help!
